HISTORY
Much has been documented about The Honeycombs over the years and the band did of course famously provide Joe Meek with his last ever number one hit "Have I The Right" in July 1964. Joe had previously produced No1 recordings for John Leyton with ‘Johnny Remember Me’ and The Tornados with ‘Telstar’ - both these artistes are still performing today.
The Honeycombs started life as the The Sheratons (some sources list it as The Sherabons) and were renowned for their glamorous female drummer Honey Lantree.
Penned by Howard Blaikley and Ken Howard "Have I The Right"was not only No.1 in the UK but also many other countries including Australia, South Africa and Japan. It peaked at No.4 in America.
Some of the bands recordings have gone on to be extremely collectable and their Japanese album now sells for three figures.
Following their initial success The Honeycombs undertook many national and international television appearances and worldwide tours.
The band continued to release quite a few singles and two albums before the death of Joe Meek in 1967. They went on touring to increased popularity and were particularly successful in northern Europe, Germany and especially Japan and the Far East.
There have been many personnel changes within the band, most notably the departure of Honey Lantree. Whilst neither Honey or any of the founder members are still with "The Honeycombs" the new line up consists of extremely talented musicians each having over 35 years experience in the business.
The current band does not include a female drummer although we are often joined on stage by a guest female vocalist.
The Honeycombs commenced playing R&B, Rock & Roll interspersed with a few instrumentals.
"The Honeycombs" continues in that tradition now playing The Honeycombs hits plus memorable and foot-tapping 60s favourites. "The Honeycombs" are happy to be paying tribute to the great Joe Meek and his music.
In other words The Honeycombs Are keeping the fabulous sounds of the 60s alive!
The Honeycombs went on to world wide fame.
